Discontinued Printer Models (Legacy)
Like any manufacturer of any product from time to time new models are introduced and older models are then often discontinued. This happens very frequenlty in most industries but with Printer Manufacturers this happens much less often. It’s not uncommon for a printer to be a current model for 5 or more years.
Even when new models appear this doesn’t mean support or more importantly media become difficult to find. In fact due to the longevity of the printers themselves this items are nearly always available for many years to come. It’s not uncommon to find supplies available for 10+ years. New models may in fact still use the same media.
As Manufacturers bring out new models of printers, then older models stop being sold and are known as Legacy Printers or Discontinued Printers. However, depending upon the printer manufacturer, the media supplies and spares are usually available for many years to come. In fact many new printers often use the same media and even parts as an older discontinued model. This is one of the reasons it is worthwhile buying from a well represented manufacturer, ideally, one who makes their own printers, as you then have a much better chance of getting the supplies and support you need in the future.
